Quick Bite: BPSA 75th Annual conference

This is the first in a series of many. Clearly I haven't written as much as I ought to have done but that changes now and it is as a result of my learnings at the 75th BPSA Annual conference. Time is an issue but hopefully this form of entry will alleviate the woes that have prevented me from writing.

In short, I attended the BPSA's annual conference which was held in Durham this year by people who I am very glad to call my friends. It was amazing and insightful, I will endeavour to detail the highlights of the week in the near future bear in mind that it is exam season and my previous promises haven't come to fruition! Try, I will try... So long story short I ran for a position on the executive in a role that I feel I would have been able to thrive in and I lost. It affected or rather is affecting me in a profound manner but how I react to it is what matters most. My initial response wasn't at all positive, it was a move to hermit myself essentially. To put a pause on the work that I am currently doing (i.e. stop going for exec roles etc.), a move to give up... I could however justify it, giving up wouldn't have been an easy move it would be the most challenging thing I could ever do or put myself through but would it have been beneficial? It certainly wouldn't be the most time efficient option. The reason for that response was the fact that the result had touched me more than I felt was necessary and more than I expected but I realised that it was because I really and truly do care!  I just felt as if my progression path has been delayed by a year, I want to skip forward to next years conference and run again.

"the need to understand ideas, evaluate ideas, execute ideas that is something I have done in the past and will do in the future"

Seven or so people said almost the exact same thing to me, "Your speech was good" , " don't give up", "Keep on trying" . And it helped, I needed those words. The immediate past president of the RPS words really impacted me he said that despite the result, I had inspired people and I should continue to do what I am doing to inspire more people. He said that it may not have seemed that way (it certainly didn't to me at the time) but that it did.

And so I will continue, the next hurdle is exams actually it is probably an apt time to announce that I will most certainly be running for Vice-President for the Durham University Pharmacy Society. The election result initially put doubts in my head but I feel that I am ready to step up for Durham after exams I will be looking at numerous ways to help and understand the world of Pharmacy alongside a host of fantastic people that I met this week.

what is needed is "the need to understand ideas, evaluate ideas, execute ideas that is something I have done in the past and will do in the future". I needed to remind myself of my own words. I can now assure you that I am ready.
